Mad Tosh Yarn Mad Tosh Shop

Amy Hendrix opened her business in 2006 and named it after her adventurous, free-thinking great grandmother.  A strongly independent yarn artist herself, Amy hand dyes beautiful natural fiber yarns and makes them available through her own shop in Fort Worth, and also in scores of local yarn shops around the country.  Amy answered a few questions recently to help us get to know her better:

Yarn Crawl: How/when did you fall in love with yarn?
Amy: When I realized I could paint it.

YC: How did you turn your yarn love into a business?
AH: Hard work, lots of Dr. Pepper, and a ton of local support!

YC: How long have you been in business?
AH: 7 years

YC: Does your shop have a particular specialty or focus?
AH: A curated selection of all natural craft supplies that are sourced from indie companies.

YC: What are some not-to-be-missed things we will find at your shop?
AH: Indie dyed yarns and spinning fibers. Fiber lovers tools including lap looms, spinning wheels, drop spindles, carders, and dyes for those who want to create their own textile art. We also have unique items such as organic, wildcrafted hand lotions, handcrafted toy sheep from Germany, hand-turned wood yarn gauges, and of course our cult favorite Baggu bags (you can’t buy just one!)

YC: What special events or activities are you planning for the Crawl?
AH: We are planning a special “pajama party” edition of our weekly knit night on October 9th from 6-10pm so grab your pj’s and fluffy slippers and join us for a night of fiber fun! We are also planning on having a Ravelry Meet-up to kick off the crawl. This will be October 4th from 12-5. We encourage everyone to come out and meet-up! We are working on having some fun treats available from a local shop here in Fort Worth. We will give those details as we get closer to the crawl. In addition, we are also planning a give away for the 121st customer to make a purchase during the crawl! So keep coming back to increase your chance of being the lucky winner!

YC: What kinds of classes/services do you offer year round?
AH: We offer lots of classes each month. They vary month-to-month, but almost always include beginners knitting, several different knitting technique classes, crochet, and spinning classes of different kinds. Customers can always keep track of which classes we have coming up on our website www.madtosh.com and while you are there don’t forget to sign up for our newsletter. It will keep you updated on all the classes, events, and new merchandise we have in the shop.

YC: How do we get to your place–any special driving directions we need to know about?
AH: We are located at 4119 Camp Bowie Blvd. #121, Fort Worth, Tx. 76132
